M intern Jen here giving you all the exclusive deets from my chat with actress, singer and dancer, Ysa Penarejo! Ysa had her start at a young age appearing in commercials, but now her debut movie An American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars' DVD, that hits today!
This movie shows girls trying to balance their love for gymnastics while not losing focus on school. Since the movie is all about gymnastics, it is only right that its television premiere is on July 14th on NBC (right before the 2012 Olympic games)! How cool is that?!
Ysa is on the road on becoming the next tween star, not only has she danced since she was only 4½ years old, she also has her new single, "Like Not Love" coming out in July too!
During our convo together we talked about her character, her favorites shows, artists, actors AND even about One Direction! Check it out:
M: Do you have anything in common with the character you're playing or are you completely different?
Ysa: Well I think completely different because Toulane's personality is different. She is a little mean but she still comes off nice. She's like bratty - a little different for me.
M: The movie is about gymnastics. Did you have to learn that before the movie or
did you have some experience?
Ysa: Well we didn't learn anything before the movie even started but when we went to Canada (where they shot An American Girl), we did start the training. It was actually really cool because we trained with our stunt double too.
M: You've been dancing for a long time. Do you have a favorite kind of dance?
Ysa: Well my favorite would be jazz and hip-hop.
M: What's your favorite TV show right now?
Ysa: Well I love Disney Channel. I watch Disney Channel a lot. So I love Jessie, A.N.T Farm. There are a lot of shows on Disney that I like Good Luck Charlie too.
M: What is your favorite song or artist that you really like right now?
Ysa: Well I have a lot artists that I like. I like Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, Beyonce. I don't know if her real name is Karmin but she did the song "Brokenhearted."
M: Who are some actors you would like to work with in the future?
Ysa: I would love to work with someone like Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt. Um, who else? Chris Hemsworth. The guy from Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr.
M: Do you like the super popular boy band One Direction?
Ysa: Yes, I have heard of them. I'm not like a crazy, big fan but I love their music. My favorite song is "What Makes You Beautiful." I could listen to it over and over again. I won't get sick of it.
Do you have a favorite member of the band yet?
Ysa: No, I actually like all of them. I don't have a favorite. It's hard to say! (laughs)
