My mom had been nagging me for months about getting an after school job to get experience. I really didn't feel like getting a job, but I figured anything would be better than listening to my mom nagging. Finally I went online to search for jobs on a website. I found a job nearby helping out in an office a few hours a week that sounded really easy. It said to e-mail a man named Barry Jones. I quickly typed up an e-mail. "Dear Mr. Jones, I am interested in the office job. Please e-mail me back with more information. Thank you." Two days later I got a reply back from Barry Jones. The email informed me that Barry was not a man, but a woman! She went on and on scolding me for addressing the email to "Mr." if I was not certain it was a man. I had no idea that Barry could also be a woman's name. I was so mortified. I didn't know if I should reply to the message or not so I never did. Needless to say, she did not give me more information about the job. From then on I always use "To whom it may concern."
